Whilst reading the guide book, clifden limestone caves was mentioned, the caves are un-manned and just within some farmers fields but we decided, as it was on the way to have a look. The guide book recommended 2 head torches for each person, we had 2 mini maglites between 3 so we took along our mobile phones and ipods (to use their screens as lights in case we got lost )
This is the entrance to the cave system
The caves run for about 200m under the ground, some of the places involved scraping along on our hands and knees and skirting around the edges of pools
Once within we entered one part of the cave system and the roof was covered in glow worms… unfortunately it was impossible to get photos of them.
Along the route we stopped off at the oldest bridge in new Zealand:
We stayed in a campsite that evening.. u can just see the sign for it in the corner of this pic, the weather went strange so i sterted to play around with the camera to get different pictures
